Eligibility and disbursement

  • Income restrictions: No income restriction; indigenous Andamanese and Nicobarese tribal communities get 95% off-grid subsidy.
  • Disbursement timeline: 60–120 days post-commissioning (shipping/logistics to islands)
  • Disbursement mode: DBT via A&N Electricity Dept./ANIDCO; UT subsidy via A&N Administration
  • Maximum capacity: 500 kW

Net metering and technical rules

  • Net metering is available under this scheme.
  • Net metering policy: A&N IERC Net Metering Regulations
  • 1 kW–500 kW. Single DISCOM: A&N Electricity Dept. (Port Blair grid) + individual island microgrids.
  • Gross metering policy: A&N IERC gross metering for >500 kW (very limited — island size constraints).
  • Hybrid policy: A&N Island Solar + BESS: every island project mandates battery storage (intermittent grid). Offshore wind study ongoing for Car Nicobar.
  • DISCOM requirements: A&N Electricity Dept.: Port Blair grid. Remote island microgrids: ANIDCO/SECI managed individual island solar power plants.

  • Target beneficiaries: All A&N consumers. Key areas: Port Blair (744xxx), Havelock Island (744xxx), Neil Island (744xxx). 572 islands — only ~38 inhabited. Remote islands: off-grid solar + BESS critical.
  • Progress: A&N: 30+ MW solar installed (April 2025). Neil Island: India's first island to achieve 100% solar power (1.1 MW solar + BESS, 2018). Havelock Island: 80% solar powered. Port Blair: 30% solar in grid mix.
